Temu, the Chinese online marketplace that has been active in Europe for two years, recently shared results from a customer survey conducted in January 2025. The data highlights that German shoppers who used the platform in 2024 reported an average saving of 27% on their purchases.
The survey, carried out in partnership with research firm Ipsos, included responses from 3,000 online shoppers across Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and Spain. Out of these, 727 were identified as Temu customers. The findings show a consistent pattern of reported savings among users in all four countries.
In the UK, shoppers claimed they saved an average of 25% using Temu in 2024, while French customers reported 24% in savings. In Spain, the numbers were not specified, but customer responses mirrored those of neighboring countries when it came to reasons for using the platform.
Across the board, low product prices were cited as the main motivation for trying Temu. In the UK, 60% of Temu users started shopping on the platform because of its affordable prices. In France, 62% gave the same reason. In Spain, that figure was 54%. Apart from price, the wide selection of products was also frequently mentioned as a reason people turned to the marketplace.
The German market, in particular, showed strong support for Temu’s model. A majority—75% of German customers surveyed—said they believed Temu offered good value for money. Notably, 41% of them said they were puzzled as to why identical products are more expensive on other platforms.
Temu commented on the findings, noting that customers can choose the quality level of the products they buy. A company spokesperson said, “This study shows that a low price does not necessarily mean poor quality.” The survey results appear to support that idea, as many customers expressed satisfaction with the value they received for the prices paid.
While price remains a major factor in attracting users, Temu’s growing footprint in Europe suggests that affordability combined with choice is resonating with a large number of consumers. As online shopping becomes more competitive, platforms like Temu are being closely watched—not just by customers looking for deals, but also by competitors keeping an eye on shifting buying habits.
