India–UK CETA Comes into Force, Unlocking New Growth Opportunities for Cross-Border eCommerce

DMSMatrix welcomes the official implementation of the India–United Kingdom Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), a landmark trade deal that is set to redefine bilateral commerce between two of the world’s largest economies.

Effective from 15 July 2026, the agreement significantly reduces trade barriers, providing Indian exporters with unprecedented access to the UK market while opening new opportunities for British businesses seeking to expand into India. Under the agreement, the UK has eliminated tariffs on 96.8% of tariff lines, covering 97.7% of current trade value, while nearly 99% of Indian exports will benefit from zero-duty access.

The agreement is expected to deliver substantial benefits across key industries, including textiles and apparel, leather and footwear, engineering goods, gems and jewellery, marine products, processed food, and agriculture. Beyond merchandise trade, CETA also strengthens cooperation in IT, professional services, education, financial services, and business consulting, while improving professional mobility and social security arrangements for eligible workers.

For online sellers and eCommerce brands, CETA creates a more competitive environment by lowering import costs, improving market access, and simplifying international trade. The agreement is expected to accelerate cross-border eCommerce, encourage marketplace expansion, and support businesses looking to reach new customers in both India and the United Kingdom.

“As global trade continues to evolve, agreements like CETA provide businesses with a significant competitive advantage,” said Sudeep Singh, CEO of DMSMatrix. “With reduced tariffs, improved market access, and stronger trade cooperation, companies can confidently expand into new markets.
