Amazon Launches Warehousing & Distribution Across Five European Markets

Amazon expands AWD to Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, giving sellers access to long-term bulk storage and automated FBA replenishment

Amazon has expanded its Amazon Warehousing & Distribution (AWD) service across five major European markets, bringing the solution to Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom from 20 August 2026.

The expansion gives Amazon sellers a new way to manage inventory by storing eligible products in bulk at Amazon distribution centres for extended periods, while Amazon automatically replenishes inventory at Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) centres based on demand.

According to Amazon, AWD is designed to help sellers address supply-chain challenges while providing greater flexibility beyond traditional FBA storage capacity.

A new approach to inventory management

With AWD, sellers can hold larger quantities of inventory within Amazon’s distribution network rather than sending their entire stock directly to FBA fulfilment centres.

Amazon’s automated replenishment capability can then move inventory from AWD into FBA fulfilment centres as required, helping sellers maintain stock levels while reducing the need for manual restocking.

The service provides several key benefits:

  • Additional storage capacity: Sellers can store eligible inventory in bulk without being limited solely by FBA capacity constraints.
  • Automated replenishment: Amazon automatically replenishes FBA inventory from AWD based on demand, helping reduce the risk of stock-outs.
  • Long-term storage: Sellers can hold inventory for extended periods in Amazon’s distribution network.
  • Predictable storage costs: Amazon says AWD uses a flat-rate storage model regardless of how long eligible inventory is stored.
  • No long-term commitment: Sellers can use the service without committing to a long-term storage contract.
  • Integrated logistics: AWD and FBA can be managed together, allowing sellers to consolidate important parts of their inventory and fulfilment operations within Amazon’s ecosystem.
  • Potential service savings: Amazon says sellers may unlock discounts on storage and transportation when AWD is combined with other eligible Amazon services.

What the expansion means for European sellers

The European launch comes as cross-border sellers increasingly look for ways to balance inventory availability, storage costs and fulfilment speed across multiple markets.

For brands selling products with predictable demand or significant seasonal peaks, the ability to hold bulk inventory upstream and automatically replenish FBA facilities could simplify inventory planning.

It may also be particularly relevant during major European shopping periods, including Black Friday, Christmas and other seasonal sales events, when demand can fluctuate sharply.

For international sellers entering Europe, AWD adds another layer to Amazon’s increasingly integrated logistics infrastructure — connecting bulk inventory storage with the fulfilment network that ultimately delivers orders to customers.

DMSMatrix: simplifying cross-border eCommerce

The expansion of AWD reinforces the importance of integrated technology and logistics strategies for brands selling internationally.

DMSMatrix helps global sellers navigate the complexities of cross-border eCommerce through marketplace management, product listings, inventory and order management, fulfilment support, compliance and other digital commerce services.

As marketplaces continue to expand their logistics capabilities, sellers need more than access to individual marketplaces. They need connected systems that can help manage inventory, orders, fulfilment and compliance across markets.

Amazon’s European AWD expansion is another indication of where the eCommerce industry is heading: more automated inventory management, deeper marketplace logistics integration and increasingly connected cross-border fulfilment networks.
